錯在哪裡

用「讀完再回想」的方式數人，一定會漏。

這篇文章的人物是一個一個分散出現的，而且用了很多不同的稱呼： I / Aunt Jane / my mother / my dad / Grandma / my brother / Grandpa。

最容易漏的兩種人：
① 用 I、we 出現的作者本人——他不會自我介紹第二次。
② 「不在現場但等一下會到」的人——爸爸和弟弟現在都不在家，但文章寫 they will get home in an hour，晚餐時就到了。

錯在沒有邊讀邊做記號。這種題目不難，只是需要一支筆。

正確解法

Step 1　邊讀邊在人名旁邊打勾，一個都不要漏

Step 2　用最後一句確認「全部都算」

We will start the big dinner
when everyone is home → 等大家都到齊才開飯 → 現在不在家的人也要算

這句話是關鍵：它保證爸爸和弟弟一定趕得上晚餐。 如果沒有這句，爸爸和弟弟就要打問號。 閱讀題最後一句常常就是拿來收尾、確認範圍用的，一定要讀完。

Step 3　檢查有沒有「重複算到同一個人」

✗my dad 出現了三次（isn’t home / driving home / talking with my dad on the phone）， 但只有一個人，不能算三次。
✗She 出現很多次，分別指 Aunt Jane 和 Grandma，要看清楚代名詞指的是誰，不要以為是新的人。
✓正確做法：只在「第一次出現的新名字」旁邊打勾，代名詞（she、he、they）一律不打。

要記住的觀念

數量統整題一定要動筆。在文章旁邊寫 1、2、3…或畫「正」字， 不要靠記憶。
作者自己（I / we）永遠要算進去。 這是這類題目最常見的失分點，出題者就是在等你漏掉。
「現在不在，但等一下會來」的人也要算。 注意 will、in an hour、is coming、on the way 這些字。
代名詞不要重複算：先確認 she / he / they 各自指誰，再決定要不要新增一個人。
讀完最後一句再作答——範圍條件（everyone、all、only）常藏在最後。

→ 他們大約在 5:55 到家，晚餐大約六點開始。

這題同時考了兩個陷阱：漏掉自己、把「只是路過的人」算進去。 做法一樣：一個一個打勾，並在每個人旁邊註明「留下／不留下」。

這題的固定動作：看到 How many people，立刻在文章每個新出現的人名上畫圈並編號。
第一個要編號的永遠是「I」。
