錯在哪裡

across 和 through 中文都翻成「穿過」，但英文分的是「平面」還是「立體」。

across ＝從一邊到另一邊，在「表面」上移動（平面）
　walk across the street（過馬路）、swim across the river（游到對岸）

through ＝從「裡面」穿過去，被東西包圍著（立體）
　walk through the forest（穿越森林）、go through the tunnel（穿過隧道）

下雨的時候，雨滴在你的四面八方，你是「被雨包住」往前走的， 所以是 through the rain，不是 across the rain。

這題是低通過率題，全班都掉在同一個地方：用中文翻譯選介系詞。

正確解法

Step 1　先問一句話：這個東西是「面」還是「空間」？

the rain（雨） → 雨在上下左右都有 → 是立體空間 → through

畫個小圖最快： across 是一條線劃過一個平面；through 是一支箭穿過一個盒子。

Step 2　把四個介系詞的畫面整理成一張表

介系詞	畫面	典型搭配
across	平面上從這一邊到那一邊	across the street／the river／ the bridge
through	從立體空間的內部穿過（被包圍著）	through the rain／the forest／ the tunnel／the crowd／the window

Step 3　四個選項逐一刪

✗(A) across　雨不是一個可以「跨過去」的平面。 across the rain 沒有這種說法。
✗(B) by　「在雨的旁邊經過」—— 但雨不是一個定點的東西，你沒辦法從它旁邊走過去。
✗(C) between　between 需要「兩個東西」，題目只有 rain 一個。
✓(D) through　hurry through the rain ＝冒雨快走，雨從四面包圍，正是 through 的畫面。

(C) 有一個秒殺法：between 後面一定要有「兩個」東西（between A and B，或 between ＋複數名詞）。 看到後面只有一個單數名詞，直接刪。

要記住的觀念

介系詞不要用中文記，要用「畫面」記。 中文的「穿過」對應到英文有 across、through、over 三種畫面。
across ＝平面（表面）；through ＝立體（內部）。
walk across the grass（走過草地表面）
walk through the tall grass（在高草叢中穿行）
through 的常見搭配： through the rain／snow／the forest／the crowd／the tunnel／the window。 共同點：你人在它「裡面」。
between 一定要有兩個對象；三個以上要用 among。
看到「低通過率」的標記，代表這題是大家共同的盲點—— 這種題目訂正一次的價值，比十題會做的題目還高。

延伸：through 的抽象用法

through 也可以用在時間和經歷上，畫面同樣是「從頭穿到尾」：
go through a hard time（經歷一段艱難時期）
through the years（這些年來）
He slept through the movie.（他整場電影都在睡。）

還有一組容易混的：over ＝從上方越過（jump over the wall）。 牆是跳過去（over），隧道是穿進去（through），馬路是走過去（across）。

當時選了 (A) across，紅筆訂正為 (D) through。
這題的固定動作：看到介系詞題，先在草稿紙角落畫一個小圖—— 人在東西的「上面」還是「裡面」？
畫出「人被雨包住」，答案立刻是 through。
