克漏字填「一整句」，靠的是前面的連接語和後面的 they——把代名詞代回去唸一次
題目
The trouble started in the afternoon. People began feeling sick after they ate the restaurant’s famous beef noodles. Most of them had stomachaches. Some threw up, and some even had high fevers.
“I liked the noodles a lot, ＿39＿. There was something wrong with the food,” Timmy said at the hospital.
The restaurant’s shopkeeper, Mr. Lee, was very worried. “We always try our best to make sure our food ＿40＿ delicious and safe. How could that happen?” he said.
Right now, health inspectors ＿41＿ the causes of the problem. “We’re checking many things. For example, ＿42＿? How did the cooks prepare them for the customers?” said Dr. Miller, one of the inspectors.

這一題圖上沒有留下當時的作答痕跡，只有紅筆訂正的 (B)， 所以下面直接從「怎麼推到 (B)」講起。
這種題型難在哪裡
所以不能靠文法刪答案，只能靠「銜接」—— 這一句要能同時接得住「前面那句」和「後面那句」。
很多人只讀了空格前面那句就作答，這是最常見的失分方式。
這題真正的關鍵有兩個，而且第二個在空格「後面」：
① 前面的 At the same time（與此同時） ——它表示「除了剛剛講的那個對象之外，還有別人在做別的事」， 暗示主角要換人。
② 後面的 they 和 their customers ——這兩個代名詞必須在你填的那句話裡找得到對應的名詞。
只要把 they 代回去唸一次，答案立刻現形。
正確解法

它的功能是把鏡頭從 A 轉到 B。
如果填的句子主角還是 Sunflower 或 Mr. Lee，就沒有「轉鏡頭」，這個連接語就白用了。
→ (A) 的主角是 Mr. Lee（還是同一家店的人），先打一個大問號。

只有 (B) 讓 they 和 their customers 兩個代名詞同時有著落。
而且「夏天要來了，要更小心」這句話，本來就是講給「還在營業的餐廳」聽的
——Sunflower 已經 closed for now，沒有顧客可以顧了。

檢驗員的工作在文章裡寫得很清楚：checking many things（查餐廳）， 不是勸民眾保重身體。
而且 they ＝ inspectors 的話，「檢驗員應該更小心維護『他們的顧客』」不通——檢驗員沒有顧客。 - ✗(D) some customers were happy about the incident

顧客吃到食物中毒、進了醫院，不可能開心，語意直接矛盾。 而且和最後一句完全接不上。
要記住的觀念
- 整句填空的克漏字，一定要「前後都讀」。 只讀前面就作答，是這類題目最大的失分原因。
- 後面那句的代名詞是最強的線索。 看到 they / it / this / their，就把它代回你選的句子唸一次， 找不到對應的名詞，或單複數不合，就是錯的。
- 連接語決定「這一句和上一句的關係」：
At the same time / Meanwhile ＝ 同時（換一組主角）
However / But ＝ 相反 For example ＝ 舉例
As a result / So ＝ 結果 In fact ＝ 補充說明、修正
先看連接語，再挑句子，範圍立刻縮小。 - 選項要和文章主題同一條線。 這篇從頭到尾是「食安事件」， 凡是跳到菜色、心情、健康宣導的選項，先扣分。
- 語意矛盾的選項直接刪。 (D) 說顧客很開心，但文章寫他們 got seriously sick、進了醫院 ——和文章事實衝突的選項，連讀完都不用。
延伸：同一篇克漏字的其他空格怎麼想
雖然只有第 43 題被訂正，但整篇的解法可以一起練：
＿39＿「I liked the noodles a lot, ＿39＿.」
前面說「我很喜歡這個麵」，後面說「食物有問題」→ 需要一個表示轉折的說法
（像 but I got sick this time／though）。
＿40＿「make sure our food ＿40＿ delicious and safe」
make sure ＋ 子句，裡面要有動詞，主詞 our food 是單數 → is。
＿41＿「Right now, health inspectors ＿41＿ the causes」
Right now ＝ 現在正在 → 現在進行式 are looking into／are checking。
看到 Right now 就要想到 be ＋ V-ing。
＿42＿「We’re checking many things. For example, ＿42＿?
How did the cooks prepare them…?」
後面是一個問句，而且下一句也是問句 → 這格要填一個「他們在查的問題」
（像 where did the beef noodles come from）。
注意後面的 them 指的是「牛肉麵的食材」，所以這格必須先出現那個名詞。
整篇的通則就是本題的方法：先看連接語，再看代名詞指誰。
類題自我檢測
The school will close the old library next month.

(A) The old library was built fifty years ago

看解答
(B)。判斷方法和本題一模一樣，看後面那句：
「Students can borrow books there starting from October.」
there ＝ 某個地方，而且是「十月起可以借書」的地方。
(A) 講舊圖書館的歷史——there 會指向「即將關閉」的舊館，
但舊館要關了，不可能十月起在那裡借書，矛盾。
(C) 學生很難過——裡面沒有任何地點，there 無所指。
(D) 老師要學生還書——同樣沒有新地點。
只有 (B) 提供了 a new reading center 這個地點，there 才有著落。
再次驗證：整句填空題，答案通常由「後面那句的代名詞」決定。
我的原始作答
這一題圖上只有紅筆訂正的 (B)，沒有留下當時選了什麼，所以不做作答分析。
這題的固定動作：整句填空一律先讀「空格後面那一句」，把裡面的代名詞圈起來
（這題是 they、their customers、there）。
然後把四個選項一個一個代進去唸——代名詞找不到主人的，全部刪掉。
